Total Time
4 hr
Ingredients
- Turkey
- 1/2 cup butter
- Seasonings to taste
Instructions
- To start this, you'll need your turkey thawed out.
- When you're ready to get this bird cooking, take the pan out of the roaster oven so you can prep the turkey in it. Fire up the roaster oven as high as it will go.
- Take the bird out of the wrapping and rinse it off. Remove the inner guts (in the neck and main cavity) if you don't want them cooked up too. Pat it down and place it in the roaster pan (but not in the roaster oven yet. If you have a rack, make sure the handles are facing up before putting the bird on it.
Let's rub the bird down now with butter. And we mean rub that whole thing down. Now salt it generously- and don't forget the cavity there. Add other seasonings as desired. Some seasonings to consider
- -Salt
- -Pepper
- -Garlic salt
- -Poultry Seasoning
- -SeasonAll
- Once it's ready with the spices, put the pan in the roaster oven. Make sure the wings aren't touching the sides of the pan, or they'll get crispy.
- Before you put it in to cook, figure out how long this will take to cook. There's a good calculator at http://www.butterball.com/calculators-and-conversions?turkey_cook_pounds.
- Cook the turkey in the roaster oven for the first 30 minutes at maximum temperature. Then turn the roaster oven down to 325 for the remainder of the time.
- Most likely your turkey will cook faster than the directions say- mine usually do. Start checking about an hour before the timer goes off.
- When the turkey is done, take it out and cover it with foil. Let it rest now for 30 minutes- this is what levels out the juices so the whole thing comes out moist.
- Enjoy!
